On Thursday the 27th, Volcan Pacaya, an active volcano near us that we often hike, erupted, covering us in this ash. Unlike the ash from your fireplace, this was very similar to black sand, and made a huge mess.
I am an amateur photographer originally from the U.S. but now in missions with my family in Guatemala. We work with Orphan Resources International, providing support to a number of orphanages here. This blog shows what I see from day to day. For those who are interested, I use a Canon Rebel XSi with a EF-S 18-55mm lens.
